Very nice 3 bedroom holiday house with private swimming pool located in a magnificent environment!!

CASA das Oliveiras is situated close to the house of Bob & Tammy(the owners) and has three twin bedded rooms (one with en-suite WC and washbasin), shower room, lounge with kitchenette and a flat screen TV and DVD player. The dining room is outside in the sunshine next to the 8x4 metre pool! There is easy access for wheelchairs.

The olive grove slopes to 150 metres of river bank - containing fish! Being in the valley there are also wonderful mountain views.

We are in the village of Ponte do Espinhal, a small traditional working Portuguese village just south of the historic town of Penela with its magnificent castle. Fifteen minutes away is Conimbriga, the largest active Roman site in Europe. University city Coimbra, the ancient capital of Portugal and the country’s equivalent of Oxford, is half an hour away.

Portugal’s ‘Silver Coast’ boasts beaches to beat the Algarve and is under one hour away.

Ryanair (Porto) and Easyjet (Lisbon) offer cheap flights, each about 90 minutes away.

Local bars and restaurants are a few minutes away (one within walking distance) and prices are extremely cheap. A good bottle of wine from the supermarket is about £1.50 and Sagres beer only 25p a bottle by the 24-bottle crate. You even get money back for the empties and the crate! Fresh fish, meat, vegetables and fruit everywhere. All very organic and healthy.

There are many ‘river beaches’ in the area and the countryside is perfect area for mountain walks, cycling, photography, bird watching, painting, fishing, horse riding or canoeing. There is a water park at Pombal, half an hour away.
